Last year, Todd from Lantern Hill Homestead gave me a bunch of offcuts and scraps from his woodturning projects. Among them were incredible specimens of spalted and burl wood, all from fallen and felled trees around local homesteads and farms. These chunks were already beautiful in raw form, but once I shaped and finished them with oil they transformed into ancient memories from the forest. The tung oil saturated deeply into these weathered and wizened tree remains, giving them gem-like qualities. Some became like agate. Others became like amber. In some places, the wood even became translucent.
These straightforward discs showcase the wood's own dramatic coloration. Sterling silver hardware completes the minimalist, nature-forward design. Tung oil and shellac finish give a bright, shiny finish.
